What to expect
Yeak Laom is a deep, clear volcanic crater lake surrounded by protected forest about 5 km from Banlung. A shaded path circles the lake in roughly 40 minutes, with wooden platforms for lake views and swimming, plus a small visitor centre displaying locally made musical instruments, baskets, scarves and other Tampuen handicrafts.
The community-managed ecotourism site was established in 1998. Local Tampuen guides can lead forest walks and cultural visits, while food and guide services should be arranged in advance. Access can be more difficult during the June–October rainy season. Swimming is at visitors’ own risk and local rules should always be followed.
