The experience

What to expect

Virachey National Park spans remote mountain and forest landscapes along Cambodia’s borders with Laos and Vietnam. Community ecotourism routes range from the 2-day Kalang Chhouy Sacred Mountain trek to longer O’Lapeung and Phnom Veal Thom expeditions, combining village homestays, ranger-guided forest travel, waterfall camps, rapids and, on selected routes, inflatable kayaking.

Trips use community homestays, tents, Khmer-speaking community guides and English-speaking ranger guides. Published reference prices begin at US$64 for one person on the 2-day/1-night Kalang Chhouy trek; longer routes and larger groups are priced separately. Access from Banlung can take far longer in the rainy season, and all routes should be confirmed directly with the park programme.
