What to expect
Sambor Prei Kuk lies about 30 kilometres northeast of Kampong Thom town and preserves the remains of Ishanapura, the seventh-century capital of the Chenla kingdom. Forest paths link more than a hundred brick monuments, including distinctive octagonal towers, carved lintels and the main Prasat Sambor, Yeai Poeun and Tor groups.
Foreign visitor admission is currently US$10 and the site is generally open daily from 7:00 AM to 5:30 PM. A local community guide adds valuable context and supports nearby livelihoods. Arrive early for cooler temperatures, wear sturdy footwear and carry water; the Angkor Pass does not cover this separate site.
