What to expect
Visak Bochea, one of Buddhism’s most sacred observances, fell on 1 May in Cambodia’s official 2026 public-holiday calendar. The day commemorates the Buddha’s birth, enlightenment and passing into final nirvana.
Across Cambodia, devotees visited pagodas to make merit, offer food and flowers, listen to Dharma teachings and join prayer or candlelight processions. Visitors should dress modestly and follow each pagoda’s rules.
