What to expect
Meak Bochea is one of Buddhism’s important sacred observances. In 2026 it fell on Monday, 2 February, corresponding to the full moon—the 15th waxing day of the Khmer lunar month of Meak.
The day commemorates the Fourfold Assembly of 1,250 disciples, the Buddha’s delivery of the Ovada Patimokkha, and his declaration of his intention to enter Parinirvana. Pagodas across Cambodia arranged offerings of flowers, candles and incense, chanting and preaching. The principal national ceremony was held at the Preah Maha Sakyamuni Chedi on Phnom Preah Reach Troap in Oudong, Kandal province.
