Third Anniversary of Koh Ker’s UNESCO World Heritage Inscription

What to expect

17 September 2026 marks the third anniversary of Koh Ker’s inscription on the UNESCO World Heritage List. The archaeological landscape, known in ancient Khmer as Chok Gargyar and in Sanskrit as Lingapura, served as the Khmer capital during the reign of King Jayavarman IV in the 10th century.

Koh Ker contains 169 ancient sites, including 76 temples, settlement areas, roads, reservoirs and other infrastructure. Its best-known monument is Prasat Prang, the stepped pyramid that served as the state temple. This listing records the verified anniversary date; no separate public ceremony has been announced.
